Chapter 157. Purpose
“That’s a bit of a surprising question. I haven’t really thought about it before.”
“I see. Then, how about we rephrase the question a bit? What is it that you desire most right now?”
“What I desire most right now…”
My greatest desire right now was to know why the Eunbyeol couple had disappeared. Only by understanding that reason could I decide whether to feel at ease, prepare for battle against an enemy, or flee.
On a broader scale, I was also striving to secure a safe dwelling and Food Supplies. I figured everyone else probably felt the same way.
“Ah… I suppose so. I’m living with survival as my goal. But isn’t that the same for everyone?”
“Indeed. Survival is the instinct of all living beings. Especially in a world where life is directly threatened like this, it’s only natural for survival itself to become the primary objective. It’s fortunate. Fortunate that your objective is survival.”
I wasn’t sure what he meant by ‘fortunate.’ Did he truly believe my words?
Professor Choi smiled and changed the subject.
“I’d love to chat a bit more, but it’s lunchtime for us now. Would you three care to join us for a meal?”
I looked in the direction he turned his head. Outside the cafe window, a man was running towards us. It was the man who had introduced himself as a slave—no, a graduate student—at the university’s main gate.
He immediately entered the cafe.
“Professor. Lunch is ready.”
“You rascal. I’m talking with guests, and you just barge in like that.”
“But you told me to come right away once the butchering was roughly done!”
