Chapter 156. Purpose
I observed them for a moment, hidden in the alleyway.
There were two men and three women who had rushed at the Wild Boar. They attacked the Wild Boar with their various Abilities.
“It won’t last long!”
“I’ll burn its eyeballs!”
One man crouched down, placing both hands on the ground. The Asphalt Road buckled, wrapping around the Wild Boar’s ankles. A woman moved into the gap, heading towards the Wild Boar’s head, and swung her fist.
*Whoosh, Thwack!*
She was wearing a firefighter’s fireproof suit and had flames wreathed around her arms. Flames blazed from her fist up to her shoulder, over her clothes, yet she seemed completely unharmed. The woman aimed her burning fist at the Wild Boar’s eyes.
“Hide here, both of you. I’ll go help those people and come right back.”
“Do we really have to help them? It feels like they’d be fine without us…”
“From their perspective, it’s like a bolt from the blue. It’s okay. Don’t worry too much.”
“Be careful.”
I hid Euna and Hyeji, then headed alone to the scene of the battle.
Honestly, as Hyeji said, I considered just running away. It would have been safer, but it didn’t suit my personality, and I felt it would leave a bad taste in my mouth. Of course, they might try to get revenge on us. Still, watching them fight the Wild Boar, I expected their disposition to be closer to good.
*They’re trying to protect this place.*
They didn’t chase us; they immediately engaged the Wild Boar. The Barricade, too, suggested they were protecting something. And the five people who came out to fight were moving organically, as if they had worked together quite a bit until now. Their way of communicating was also different from the Ark Faction that had chased us in Guri. Of course, despite all that, they could still be bad guys.
