Chapter 45
I don’t want to die. I don’t want to die.
A deep sense of despair clawed at her mind.
Was she really going to die so pointlessly?
‘…Help me.’
As she muttered that single phrase…
Slide.
Diana opened her eyes.
‘What happened? I was captured by slave traders just a moment ago.’
The image of a man with hair and eyes as crimson as fire flickered in her mind.
“T-That man?!”
She looked around, frantically searching her surroundings.
Crackle.
The warmth from the fireplace was heating the room, giving it a cozy feeling. Just then, a small shadow fell before the door.
“Ah, you’re finally awake, human brat?”
The person who entered was a dwarf with a bushy beard.
“W-Who are you?”
Diana wrapped herself in the blanket, remaining extremely wary of the stranger.
“I’m not going to eat you, so stop doing that. My name is Schmidt. I’m one of the artisans belonging to the great Moonlight March.”
Schmidt introduced himself while setting a bowl of warm stew before Diana.
Gulp!
At the sweet aroma, Diana unconsciously drooled, then quickly wiped her mouth with her sleeve, her face turning bright red.
“Eat. Why aren’t you eating what I gave you?”
“T-Thank you.”
Her wariness slightly eased as she sipped the stew and asked Schmidt, “Where is that man in red?”
“Ah, that guy.”
Schmidt scowled as if even mentioning him was annoying and began to vent. “That brat. I was dying of sleep in the middle of the night, and he barged in like a soaked rat, handed you over saying you were his ‘second big catch,’ and left.”
