Chapter 42
The Onyx Square School.
In the cabin where McCally resided…
“Haa, haa…”
Lily lay on the bed, her breath coming in ragged gasps.
“She barely made it.”
McCally, who had been monitoring her condition, let out a sigh of relief and leaned back in her chair with an exhausted expression.
“Essentially, didn’t I do almost all the work?”
Mirai Grafen, a middle-aged woman dressed in priestess robes standing right next to her, narrowed her eyes slightly. She was a priestess and also the head of Lux Lunae, one of the Eight Schools.
The reason Mirai had come to a rival school was because Lily had been cursed. To dispel the curse, the help of Mirai—renowned as the finest priest among those in Isilia—was necessary.
Pricked by her conscience at Mirai’s reproach, McCally grumbled and offered a pathetic excuse.
“I—I cheered very hard.”
“If only you could keep your mouth shut…”
Mirai sighed and looked back and forth between Khal, who was sitting near the fireplace, and McCally.
“Lily is a natural-born talent. She is extremely diligent and her academic achievements are outstanding. I stood by and watched her come here out of respect for her wishes, but this is problematic.”
“Wait! Why does it sound like Lily being cursed is our fault?”
“To be precise, it’s because of Kalliant. It’s likely because of you.”
Mirai looked at Khal with clear disapproval.
“Please explain the reason.”
Khal tossed a piece of firewood into the hearth and assumed a posture of quiet listening.
“The curse placed on Lily is ‘Yago.’ It is a vampiric-type curse that steals life force. This curse can be transmitted through butterflies trained with familia magic. The curse has already begun to spread through parts of Partes Academy.”
