Chapter 148
Hazel, who had been subdued and dragged in by Martin, was placed in a rocking chair with his limbs bound.
Creak, creak.
Every time the chair swayed, instead of comfort, a sensation like metal scraping against his eardrums grated on him.
More than anything, he felt like he was going to vomit.
Grip!
It was futile to clench his fists in an attempt to escape. Whatever the material was, the ropes holding his wrists were not something that could be easily snapped or unraveled.
Slurp.
Hazel frowned, staring at Khal, who was sipping black tea in front of him.
Standing behind Khal were Martin, Goetz, Jake, and Diana. Sensing intuitively that the man they served was Khal, Hazel swallowed hard against the tension and asked a question.
“Who are you?”
“Kalliant Stark. Since you’re a clever fellow, I imagine you’ve come across some information about me.”
‘Why did the Mad Dog of Lucon come for me!’
Hazel laughed awkwardly and tried to feign ignorance to change the subject.
“W-well, I’m not really sure. More importantly, I must have caused you quite a headache. How about I return the stolen money and you let me go?”
With a stoic expression, Khal gave an answer Hazel hadn’t expected.
“Keep it. That amount of money should be enough to keep you running for three years. You won’t be getting a salary for those three years.”
What on earth was he talking about?
A sense of dread began to wash over him. Sweat beaded on Hazel’s face as he stammered.
“K-keep me running?”
“I’m about to arrange a job for you so you can work diligently. You’ll be living as my subordinate on the front lines of Altair.”
