Chapter 83. Crisis
Murmurs of women could be heard from atop the Barrier.
“Oppa. Is it really okay to just let them go like that?”
“It’s fine. Even if they starve to death now, they won’t dare attack us.”
Just moments ago.
As I aimed my Baseball Bat at the Alpha Dog’s head, an indescribable intuition struck me again.
It was a strong feeling that the Wild Dog Pack would no longer harm us. I couldn’t explain it in words, but I felt that letting them go now might even lead to an alliance.
*But how could I explain this to the others?*
The leader of the Wild Dog Pack was an animal incapable of speech, yet it had clearly sent me a message through its eyes. *Please, let us live.* But how do I tell the Raid Members that? That’s the problem.
“It’s okay, everyone. Don’t be so anxious.”
“Do you really think those fierce beasts will give up just like that? They might come back with even more numbers next time.”
“Oppa sometimes gets these… inspirations, you know? It’s always been like that…”
Instead of me, lost in thought, Seonyoung reassured the Raid Members.
Truth be told, seeing them lower their posture in submission, awaiting my decision, had stirred a sense of pity in me. That Wild Dog Pack wasn’t made up of animals born into the wild. They had formed a pack to survive, hunted together. They were likely individuals who had adapted well to this changed world and survived. In a way, their plight seemed similar to ours, stirring a faint feeling of shared suffering.
But that was a secondary reason. It might sound ridiculous, especially since I’m no Shaman, but as Seonyoung put it, a sudden “inspiration” had signaled that letting them live now would be more beneficial to us. This intuition had never been wrong before, and I decided not to ignore it this time either.
