Chapter 81. Crisis
The afternoon sun beat down, scorching the earth.
It was a damn good day, weather-wise.
The Wild Dog Pack had dragged away a few Zombie Corpses and hadn’t reappeared.
I stood guard alone for about an hour before Yejin came up to relieve me.
“Be careful out front.”
We brought the white 1.5-ton truck I’d spotted from the Rooftop inside the Barrier.
First, we had to clear away the corpses.
While we ate and briefly reorganized, flies had already started to gather.
The blood pooling on the ground seemed to boil in the hot weather.
Splat, splat, splat.
I tossed Zombie Corpses into the truck’s bed. Everyone, except Yejin who was on guard, was helping me clean up.
The aftermath of a zombie battle was always dirty, exhausting, and dangerous work. At first, a few people had dry-heaved, but now everyone just moved their hands in silence.
‘Not long ago, they probably never dreamed they’d be doing something like this.’
Just the fact that no one was refusing to help made me think they were all incredible.
The corner of the Barrier that the Wild Boar had smashed through was now open again. I had painstakingly stacked vehicles to block it, only to remove them with my own hands. Then, I pushed the furniture inside aside, creating a path for the corpse-transporting truck to pass through.
Thump, thump, thump.
“All clear!”
Seonyoung shouted, tapping the truck. She wore a mask over her face and a scarf wrapped around it. On her hands were Rubber Gloves, and over her Farming Clothes, she had pulled on a poncho-style Raincoat. Below that, she wore blue work boots, fully armored from head to toe.
