Chapter 64. Mutation
“I don’t believe Kim Taesik would lie like that. But, if he was just desperate to get us to join, even now…”
As I listened, her voice grew increasingly confident, insisting that I had lied.
“Kim Seung-hee. Believe what you want, or don’t. I don’t care. And don’t ever call me again.”
Listening to Director Kim any longer would only put me at a disadvantage. So, I cut her off and hung up.
It was something I could never have imagined doing back in my corporate life. Despite the annoyance that woman caused, I felt a strange sense of exhilaration. Those who haven’t experienced it wouldn’t understand. This small act of cutting someone off and hanging up first could be profoundly satisfying for some.
After hanging up, Manager Lee’s name flashed on my Cell Phone screen again, but I ignored it and headed up to the 6th floor.
All eight of us diligently moved, roughly finishing the warehouse cleanup, and decided to rest for tomorrow.
“Sujin, welcome.”
I showered first, then sat at the large table in the Living Room and cracked open a can of beer. Seonyoung and Gayoung joined me, followed by Sujin, who was the last to finish washing up. Soon, the women from Apartment 501 also streamed in, and before I knew it, we were all drinking beer together.
“Raid Leader, what’s the schedule for tomorrow?”
“First, I’ll tell you about our Routine and how we’ve been living.”
I explained our way of life to the women who had joined us. Now, I needed to figure out how to adjust things with the increased number of people.
