Chapter 360. Expansion
We walked for days through the cold snap, facing numerous challenges. The extreme drain on our stamina was a given, and the risk of frostbite was high. I constantly monitored the group’s physical condition and health, ensuring no one pushed themselves too hard. Without the boat, the journey would likely have taken much longer.
“Damn it. Can’t see again.”
“Just a moment.”
My eyelashes kept freezing, obstructing my vision. Ina handed me a heating pack and a Handkerchief.
“Thanks.”
“Don’t mention it.”
“You should go into the boat and rest for a bit too. We’re almost there.”
The cold wasn’t the only obstacle to walking. Each snowfall was incredibly heavy, and the snow gradually piled up thicker with each passing day. There was no one to clear it. The snow, which barely melted even at midday and only continued to accumulate, painted the world white. We trudged through deep Snowfields and navigated treacherous Icy roads. Although we had prepared various countermeasures for such an environment back in Choguljae, walking remained incredibly difficult.
‘The difficulty in walking isn’t the only problem.’
I scanned the surroundings, looking far into the distance. The dazzling Snowfield reflected the sunlight. The light itself was the issue. Ina had suffered minor burns on the skin exposed around her Goggles. After walking for a while, her face had turned red in the shape of her Goggles. Moreover, visibility was limited. No one dared to walk around with bare eyes. Goggles were essential, but they would fog up as we walked. This meant the others were practically blind, forced to follow only me.
