Chapter 282. Contamination
We left Cheongnyangni Station early in the morning and walked until late morning.
Our primary destination was the Han River, and before we set out, we naturally assumed we’d arrive by noon.
Even though we had to push a heavy Boat, our pace wasn’t terribly slow. It was a distance that would have taken less than two hours to cover in the old world.
What we overlooked was that the roads were no longer normal. We constantly checked the map as we walked, but often encountered blocked paths where the Boat couldn’t pass. These weren’t originally blocked roads, but rather places that had become impassable due to obstacles created after the floods. Even in areas we could traverse, we had to push through piles of Trash, which significantly slowed our progress.
“Should we go that way? I think higher ground would be better.”
“Let’s do it.”
The heat and foul odor prompted us to take an early break, so we entered an Apartment Complex. Since all the lower buildings were submerged, we decided to rest on a higher floor. We were still far from the Han River, having only covered half the expected distance.
“Ah… Ugh.”
“Ugh.”
We passed through a collapsed wall and entered the Apartment Complex via a Flower Bed. Directly ahead, we saw the driveway leading down to the Underground Parking Lot. Black water sloshed in the sloped parking lot entrance. Unidentifiable Trash and what appeared to be human bones floated on the water’s surface. Swarms of insects gathered like black clouds in the air above the water, and a terrible foul odor permeated everything. Everyone groaned at the pungent smell.
