Chapter 154. Suspicion
Thud, thud, thud-thud-thud-thud.
Amidst the sound of raindrops hitting the window, a faint noise blended in. It was small, yet distinctly alien, and it pierced my ears.
Splish, splash.
It sounded like footsteps treading through puddles.
I quietly got up and opened the room door. Before heading to the living room, I checked on Euna and Hyeji, who were sound asleep. It seemed the strange noise had only reached my ears. Carefully closing the room door so as not to wake them, I stepped into the living room.
I gently slid open the large window on one side of the living room. It was a sliding glass window that led directly outside.
Swaaah! Thud-thud-thud-thud!
“Ugh. What the fuck is this?”
“Careful. Looks like they laid something on the ground.”
As I slightly opened the window, the sounds grew clearer. I hadn’t misheard. As expected, we had midnight visitors. Amidst the heavier rain, thicker than when I’d fallen asleep last night, I heard muffled groans, as if someone had stepped on a Booby Trap. Both voices belonged to men.
“Ugh… Fuck. How much stuff did they even lay down?”
“Be careful, you idiot. Why are you the only one stepping on them?”
“You son of a bitch, I’m in front! These bastards are really dead meat.”
I poked my head out slightly to check the adjacent building. Both men were wearing raincoats, and one of them held a small lantern. The Pension building they were approaching was empty. After brushing my teeth last night, just in case, I had moved our sleeping spot to the next building over. Euna had gone through the trouble of resetting the Booby Traps, but it turned out to be a good decision.
