Chapter 130. Companion
The prior arrival was none other than the Black Monster Cat.
Only a few days had passed, yet its size had grown even larger than when I last saw it. It was now almost as big as a medium-sized motorcycle.
The cat was crouched by the riverbank, drinking water. A wave of familiarity washed over me, and I approached it.
“Huh? Watch out…”
Ignoring Hyeji’s startled cry, I made my presence known as I drew closer. Though, to be fair, it had already rolled its eyes to glance our way even before that.
“Hey, cat. Been doing well?”
“Meow~ Nyaaaong.”
A smile spread across my face, as if I’d reunited with an old friend. It let out a meow, as if responding to my greeting.
It was close enough to touch. Though it was a dangerous monster capable of easily slaughtering Mutated Zombies, I felt no particular concern. I knelt before it, meeting its gaze, and extended my hand.
*Sniff sniff, lick.*
The cat sniffed once, then licked its tongue. Just then, Euna and Hyeji, who had been watching us from behind, approached.
“My goodness… What’s going on?”
“Quiet…”
Hyeji was fussing, while Euna chided her. As the two women drew near, the Black Monster Cat nimbly climbed onto the low embankment. It lay down on its belly there, watching us as if we were entertainment.
I waved a hand at it and then started our task.
“That cat is… well, a friend of mine, I guess? Don’t worry about it, let’s get ready to fish.”
