Chapter 102. Relocation
Leaving the building, I headed towards the one-room building where Na-yeon was.
The midday sun beat down, scorching the Asphalt Ground. The heat was so intense, it made me wonder if it was truly June.
The streets were utterly deserted, devoid of both Zombies and people. The windows of nearby buildings were all shattered, and abandoned vehicles lay scattered haphazardly. In those desolate streets, I was the only one moving.
In a world that had come to a standstill, a sudden wave of loneliness washed over me.
‘Loneliness? What is this… I feel like I’ve forgotten something important.’
As I gazed at the desolate streets, a sense of melancholy settled over me, accompanied by the feeling that I’d forgotten something crucial. An empty heart. Why do I truly feel alone now? I’ve always lived alone, after all. Perhaps the heat is getting to me. I blamed the weather for this unsettling feeling, trying to shake it off.
‘Maybe it’s just hunger.’
When a person’s stomach is empty, their heart tends to weaken. Just yesterday, I was so happy to be full. At least I, as a human, seem quite simple-minded.
Comforting myself, I knocked on the one-room building’s door.
Knock, knock.
No response. Could she have gone out? I waited for a moment, then knocked again.
Knock, knock-knock, knock-knock-knock.
My hand, on its own accord, tapped a rhythm on the door. Anyone hearing this would think I was sending some kind of signal. Or perhaps they’d think I was just messing around.
