Chapter 62
Day broke. The time had finally come to part ways with the Promes Merchant Group.
It was a natural progression, if one could call it that.
However, unlike Khal’s indifferent reaction, Schmidt and Diana still had looks of lingering regret on their faces.
Schmidt, who shook hands with Vegenue, grumbled until the very end.
“Take care, you old man.”
“Yes, I’ll be off. I’ll make sure to invite you to my mansion once it’s large enough to make you faint, so keep that in mind.”
Vegenue gave a bitter smile before turning his gaze to Diana.
Diana spoke to him with a saddened expression.
“We traveled comfortably thanks to the Promes Merchant Group. Thank you.”
As Diana spoke with courtesy, Vegenue stroked his beard and replied.
“If things ever get difficult, be sure to speak up. That blockhead of a man won’t understand unless you tell him directly that you’re struggling.”
“I can hear you,” Khal chimed in irritably.
Khal’s annoyance caused Diana to break into a cold sweat.
“M-More importantly, what are your plans for the future?”
“I’m thinking of retiring before too long.”
“L-Lord Merchant!”
His subordinates, who hadn’t heard this news yet, widened their eyes in shock.
Vegenue continued as if satisfied.
“At this age, I finally feel like I can live honestly for the first time. I intend to establish a foundation for children who have lost their way.”
“That’s a wonderful dream.”
Diana’s sparkling eyes were filled with respect for Vegenue.
At her gaze, Vegenue responded in a somber voice.
“This is the only way I can think of to repay the karma I’ve accumulated over the years.”
