Chapter 169
Snap!
Lily’s patience finally snapped at the blunt, firm refusal she hadn’t heard in a long time.
‘Right. This is the Khal I know. I suppose it has to be this way, but still.’
She had led Partes Academy as its top student and Student Council President, so being rejected so heartlessly made a surge of resentment well up in her chest.
“I can’t accept that. Give me a reason at least. Com-man-der.”
Lily glared at Khal, her voice dripping with displeasure.
‘She’s certainly no ordinary woman.’
While Hazel watched the exchange nervously, Khal finally spoke.
“It’s dangerous. Besides, I doubt I could afford the salary you’d expect.”
“You can just give me as much as your conscience allows. And I’m more than capable of defending myself, so just let me work.”
“You must get told you’re incredibly stubborn quite often, don’t you?”
“It’s the first I’ve heard of it.”
Khal frowned deeply.
“Stop using formal speech. And don’t call me by my rank.”
“We must separate public and private matters. Commander, I’m staying right here until I get a definitive answer.”
‘Why is she being so persistent?’
Khal scratched his head and let out a long sigh.
“…You’ll have to be recognized by the others, not just me.”
Considering she had inherited the magic of the world’s greatest barrier master and had served as the Student Council President at the elite Partes Academy, Lily’s abilities were beyond doubt.
However, the world might see her as an opportunist suddenly jumping onto the bandwagon of an Altair that was preparing for change.
