Chapter 161
About four days had passed since Licht’s funeral.
Martin, Goetz, and Hazel arrived at Khal’s office, dressed in the uniforms of the Crimson Gale Knights.
Scritch, scritch.
Khal, also wearing his red uniform, was reading a mountain of documents on his desk with a cold expression.
When should we speak?
While the awkward silence lingered, Martin was the first to open his mouth.
“Did you call for us?”
“It seems everyone is gathered.”
Perhaps he had truly been focused, for only then did Khal look up.
Leaning back in his chair, Khal began to explain as he interlaced his fingers.
“The size of the Crimson Gale Knights is four thousand. You three will become Centurions, each taking charge of a thousand men. And Martin, as the Vice Commander, you will take command on the battlefield whenever I am absent.”
“….”
The three men trembled, their eyes wavering at the sheer scale of the number, far larger than they had expected.
They were all individuals from the streets, neither of noble birth nor highly educated.
Of course, this aspect had been greatly improved through Licht’s efforts over time, but their expressions remained dark under the weight of such heavy responsibility.
Khal let out a hum and spoke in a tone that sounded almost pitying.
“Licht would be disappointed.”
A surge of emotion hit them!
Stung by his words, the three men stood up simultaneously and answered in unison.
“We will do our best.”
With a slight lift of his lips, Khal slowly rose from his seat and gazed at the scenery outside the window.
