Chapter 127
Before departing Isilia.
While walking with Diana Morph Benefica and Schmidt, Khal spotted McCally loitering near the entrance of Partes Academy. Muttering to herself, she spat out insults and curses, calling him an ‘impudent brat’ and a ‘revolting kid.’
“…Here we go again.”
“Indeed.”
Schmidt and Diana shared a wry smile, deciding to watch the master and disciple from a distance.
Khal approached and teased her as usual.
“If you don’t go in and sleep early, you’ll never grow taller.”
“I’m already fully grown, you brat!”
McCally clicked her tongue and took something out of her pocket to hand to Khal. It was a pair of bracelets. Khal narrowed his eyes as he looked at the inscriptions etched onto them.
“…This is.”
The patterns were the incantations for the Triggers he had been using as disposables. The metal bracelets used as the medium were created by re-processing the chains he had previously obtained from the Sword Sanctuary. Even without the patterns, they were sophisticated accessories.
McCally raised a finger and explained, “Schmidt made these out of Nether Stone. They can store up to five charges of mana. You can’t keep using disposable ones forever.”
Putting on the bracelets, Khal said somewhat curtly, “…Thanks.”
Thinking about it, he rarely said such words, making the moment feel incredibly awkward.
“Don’t act cute; it doesn’t suit you.” McCally scowled, but when her eyes began to sting unexpectedly, she quickly turned her head away. “I’m sure you’ll do well wherever you go—being the unlucky genius you are—but don’t be reckless. I don’t want complaints coming back to me.”
