Chapter 351. Settlement
As the year drew to a close, the weather grew progressively colder.
Even when I went to get Firewood from Mister Dog Owner, it was cold, but it felt like our country’s winter weather. Now, it felt less like I was in Korea and more like I was in some polar region.
“I’m back.”
“Nyaaaang.”
“Oh? Schneider, you’re back early?”
I had just returned from a hunting trip I’d promised Mister Dog Owner. Our group consisted of three: me, Deok-hun, and Joina. From the village Elders’ side, it was just Mister Dog Owner.
We headed towards the river first. The plan was to set up fish traps and then climb the mountain across the river. The river was frozen incredibly thick. Mister Dog Owner said it hadn’t been this bad just a few days ago. We broke through the thick ice and painstakingly set up the fish traps, but there was no catch by the time we came down from the mountain. Still, we didn’t come back empty-handed.
“He must have been cold. He came back a little while ago, covered in snow.”
Seonyoung, who was beside Schneider, answered for him. Schneider, who had been dozing off beside the stove, let out a small cry when he heard my voice. I sat beside him for a moment and scratched his neck.
“Nothing unusual happened?”
“Nyaang.”
“Alright. You worked hard. Rest a bit, then let’s eat some meat.”
At the mention of “meat,” he perked up his ears. I was already struggling with Schneider’s fur, which had gotten all over my sleeve just from a brief cuddle. Bringing Schneider into the house and then washing and cleaning him was no easy task.
