Chapter 302. Reunion
The sun would soon set.
This situation, confronting strangers deep in the mountains, felt incredibly uncomfortable. Especially since there were over ten men on the other side. But the man who stepped forward as their representative, someone my age, seemed to have many questions.
“I know this situation might be stressful, but could I ask a few questions?”
“Yes, go ahead.”
The man smiled and spoke, perhaps to reassure me. Despite his rugged appearance, he maintained a gentlemanly demeanor from his initial reaction to his current approach. His attitude convinced me to spare some time. Just as I hadn’t met many people, perhaps they hadn’t either. I thought they were simply glad to see a survivor after so long, willing to share their Food Supplies and strike up a conversation.
“Do you happen to have a group with you?”
“Why do you ask?”
“Ah, no ill intent. We’re gathering people, you see.”
I answered his question with a slightly sharp tone. A mistake. It was as good as admitting I had a group.
“It’s natural to be wary, but we truly mean no harm. We are not a group of raiders.”
“Yes. It’s just a world where it’s hard to trust anyone.”
“Indeed. And this situation isn’t ideal for a conversation.”
The man and I hadn’t even introduced ourselves yet. He didn’t force me to answer, nor was he swayed by some conviction like the Ark bastards. He continued speaking in a tone that suggested he neither wanted anything from me nor was he in a desperate situation.
“Given the circumstances, I’ll be quick with a few points.”
