Chapter 279. Fight
The water that had engulfed the city was finally receding.
Days had passed since the typhoon, and not a single drop of rain had fallen.
The problem was, the water level had rapidly dropped to a certain point, then abruptly stalled.
It was as if something was obstructing the flow, causing the water to stagnate.
Chaeyoung explained that the cityâs Drainage Channels were blocked. Sheâd heard it from the people whoâd first taken refuge in the Department Store: the city had turned into this mess after the subway tracks were flooded.
Without human intervention, the entire city had transformed into a colossal aquarium.
The theory was that far more water was trapped underground than was visible, holding the surface water level stubbornly in place.
âSame as yesterday,â I muttered.
âYeah, itâs tricky.â
After an early breakfast, my companions and I stood before the station building.
We were using a long pole to gauge how much the water level had dropped.
Mina called it âtrickyâ because the water was too shallow for a boat, yet too deep to swim across.
In short, we were stuck at Cheongnyangni Station.
âDoesnât look like rain, does it?â
âNope. Blazing hot.â
I gazed up at the sky.
Again this morning, the sunâs rays beat down relentlessly.
The weather was all extremes.
If only it would rain moderately, we wouldnât be short on water, at least.
Or if the water would just recede faster.
Since the Monsoon Season and Typhoon had passed, not a single cloud had graced the sky.
Now, even drinking water was rationed, let alone water for washing.
