Chapter 228. Fishing
People currently living in the Department Store fell into two main categories. The majority were those who had been treated as slaves in the Ark. And then there was a small number who had assimilated into the Ark as members of the Ark Annihilation Alliance. At least, that’s how it appeared on the surface.
Tick, whoosh.
‘Why does it feel like it’s been so long since I last smoked?’
After catching up with my companions, we had a hearty dinner. The women were inside, lying down with face masks on, chatting away, while I stepped out into the corridor and lit a cigarette. Go Suran had sent the Office Look Zombie to the building across from the Comprehensive Sports Park. A zombie that never needed rest made for an excellent guard.
‘How long will it take, I wonder…’
Smoking alone, I reconsidered the conversation we’d just had. It was impossible that everyone in those two groups living in the Department Store was a good person. I didn’t even expect them to be. What I wanted to filter out were those consumed by their desires, intent on disrupting the current order.
Not everyone who had lived as a slave in the Ark knew each other. In fact, there might be some who were official devotees of the Ark but were now pretending otherwise. Or perhaps some who were part of the Ark Annihilation Alliance had been swayed by those Ark bastards and lived just like them. I planned this operation with the intention of ‘fishing out’ such individuals.
