Chapter 194. Alliance
The Principal’s Ability seemed both good and, in a way, useless. After hearing his explanation, it was hard to form a definitive judgment.
“Currently, the scope of the Land of Promise is this Underground Bunker. Before we discuss further, would you make a promise with me?”
“So, it requires mutual consent. And it’s an Area-of-Effect Ability.”
“Yes. Of course, as Mr. Taesik mentioned, depending on the Detailed Trait, it can also target individuals instead of just an area of land.”
“But as you know, even simple Contracts have their Traps and Poisonous Clauses, no matter how many conditions you add.”
The Principal’s Ability was that within the scope he designated, any promise made with him had to be kept. He had sometimes made promises with students who caused trouble, or with teachers, always hoping they would keep their word. It was truly a teacher-like idea, a pure wish that seemed out of place for his age.
“That’s right. That’s why I want to emphasize the concept of a promise even more. This isn’t a Contract.”
“What do you mean by that…?”
“I simply make a promise with the other party. There are no penalties for breaking it.”
“What? Then what’s the point?”
“A promise is based on Trust. My Ability discerns the true intentions of the target from the very moment they make the promise.”
“Ah…”
It was truly difficult to grasp. His Ability could be an unbreakable oath for some, or a meaningless formality for others.
“There are such cases. People might say, ‘Let’s grab a meal sometime.’ One person might say it merely as a courtesy. But for another, it becomes a genuine promise, a hopeful expectation of meeting again. Therefore, I cannot impose penalties.”
