Chapter 191. Ark
The merchant’s reply made me doubt my own ears.
Human flesh, of all things.
Stripped of its skin and with only the meat filleted, the human flesh looked no different from any other kind of meat.
“What’ll it be? Come on, pick something already.”
“No, thank you.”
He seemed to have no qualms about selling human flesh. Did that mean it wasn’t considered strange in this market? I tried to hide my shock as I prepared to leave.
“Hey, what the hell? You’re gonna drain my energy right at the start of business? Just leaving?”
“Fuck, what else? What am I supposed to buy from a bastard selling human flesh?”
The merchant came around his handcart, trying to grab my sleeve. Only now did I notice the Kitchen Knife he was holding was in terrible condition. It looked far from hygienic.
“Is it really such a big deal…”
“Touch me and you die. Back off.”
“Damn it… then don’t ask in the first place…”
As I glared at his outstretched hand and snarled a warning, he grumbled and retreated behind his handcart. I quickly gathered Euna and Mina and left the spot.
“This is truly beyond anything I imagined.”
“Tell me about it. My heart’s still pounding.”
I had been far too generous in my assessment of these Ark bastards. Foundation, my ass. The thought that they were, after all, just a crazy cult solidified in my mind, and I walked away with slightly faster steps.
“Oppa. Over there.”
“Alright. Let’s check it out.”
After passing the market entrance and venturing a little further in, the crowd grew considerably. Customers browsing the display stands also started to appear. Some laid out junk that made me wonder how they could possibly sell it, while others, like before, sold unidentified meat. There were also those selling weapons and various daily necessities, and some who displayed cigarettes. Still, most merchants simply sold a random assortment of items. Surprisingly, meat was interspersed among many display stands, and to my eyes, all of it looked like human flesh.
