Chapter 146. Chogul
Two chickens lay before me.
Their yellow irises and black pupils seemed to stare right at me.
*Gulp.*
Perhaps it was because the carcasses were so intact. I swallowed dryly for no particular reason, then drew my knife. I grabbed a chicken’s head with my gloved hand, covering its eyes.
“We need to drain the blood first. Anyone want to help?”
“How?”
As I stepped forward, Euna and Hyeji approached. It seemed neither of them had any real intention of running away.
“Euna, grab its feet and hold it up like this. Hyeji, go get some water for boiling.”
“Got it!”
Euna put on her gloves with a determined expression. Hyeji, excited, dashed into the house to retrieve a large pot.
“I’m not sure if this is right. Just hold it steady.”
“Okay…”
I pointed the chicken’s head downwards and slit its throat with the knife. Blood splattered onto the grass. I then slit the throat of the remaining chicken and drained its blood as well.
“I got the water, but I can’t lift the pot.”
Hyeji, who had gone to fetch groundwater in the meantime, returned empty-handed, asking for help.
“Ah! Let’s just do all the butchering over there.”
“Oppa. What about me? Should I keep holding this?”
Euna looked at me with an earnest expression. After a moment’s thought, I told Euna to follow me and then hoisted the Brazier. I set down the Brazier and the chickens on the cement ground next to the Groundwater Well, preparing to butcher them.
