Even though the Imperial Court had resolved to act, it too was in turmoil due to the significant void left by the death of Commander of the Embroidered Uniform Guard Guo Dan.
Fortunately, the current Emperor, Emperor Chenghua, was a capable ruler.
When his ministers suggested abandoning the half-ruined Beijing and relocating the capital to Nanjing, he firmly declared that he would protect Beijing. He then opened the Imperial Court’s treasury and personally began the task of rooting out the rebel forces who had joined Yi Ja-ryong.
Though the Embroidered Uniform Guard had been shaken by the death of Guo Dan, the Emperor’s foremost blade, the unrest quickly subsided once Emperor Chenghua personally conducted Imperial Interrogation.
