Chapter 208: Severing the Past
The Sword Emperor and the Sect Leader believed that no matter what tactics they employed, they could not kill Baek Moo-jin. No, they had fallen into despair upon realizing that the despicable schemes they had orchestrated would not work at all.
Despair leaves no room for reason in a human mind. The instinct to flee was degrading their humanity.
Therefore, the Sword Emperor fled north toward where his subordinates were waiting, while the Sect Leader headed south. They clung to the flimsy hope that at least one of them might escape.
Baek Moo-jin decided how he would kill the fleeing pair, then immediately shot into the air and pursued the Sword Emperor first.
Even if all three were at full strength, Baek Moo-jin was overwhelmingly faster in aerial combat.
Thus, there was no chance the Sword Emperor could shake off Baek Moo-jin’s pursuit. Having soared into the air, Baek Moo-jin moved while stepping over several frozen corpses, then blocked the Sword Emperor’s path.
The Sword Emperor extended his left hand and shouted.
“Lord Baek! Just hear me out for a moment…”
The Sword Emperor stopped mid-sentence and swung his sword at Baek Moo-jin. Baek Moo-jin, instead, lunged at the Sword Emperor and sliced his throat clean off.
Could death be any more futile?
Unlike when facing Jin Cheon-yeong, Baek Moo-jin didn’t even glance at the Sword Emperor’s futile death. Before the Sword Emperor’s body hit the ground, Baek Moo-jin snatched his sword, sheathed his own blade, and swiftly moved toward the Sect Leader before halting.
