Chapter 298
Extra Story 31
The fruit of their union, the child of Dale and Charlotte, was crying.
Unaware of anything in the world, it wailed loudly.
Watching that sight, he thought. Of the emotions Dale’s father, Alan of Saxony, must have felt when he saw their child, ‘Dale’.
After learning Dale’s secret, the image of his father, alone in the shadows, stifling his own sobs.
Even so, until the very end, the father loved his son. The son felt the same. But only when Dale finally embraced his child did the pain and weight the father must have felt become painfully real.
His legs trembled, and beneath a weight he could scarcely bear, tears threatened to spill at any moment.
“…Dale.”
Just then, Charlotte smiled and spoke.
“What’s wrong?”
“…Nothing.”
“You look terribly sad.”
Charlotte said, and Dale shook his head, forcing a smile.
“I’m not sad.”
“Then what?”
“I’m just so happy.”
Dale answered. After answering, he simply turned his head. His father and mother, Alan and Elena of Saxony, were there.
Smiling at their son as always, they were watching Dale. The fact was so incomprehensible it made his heart ache.
That’s why Dale collapsed where he stood and began to sob silently.
After the god of meaninglessness vanished, what remained was just a pitifully weak and stripped-bare human being.
How much time had passed? He couldn’t tell.
No one spoke of the Emperor or the revolution, and all the world’s tales were no longer heard.
