Chapter 72: Cheongseongpa-4
A night when the full moon shone brightly.
The gate guards stationed at the main entrance of the Sword Gate were blinking their eyes to fight off the drowsiness creeping over them.
Suddenly, a woman’s voice rang out from somewhere.
“Help us! Please help us!”
The warriors, their eyes suddenly wide, drew their weapons and looked toward the source of the voice.
Clang! Clang!
Then, a woman supporting someone else stumbled toward them, screaming as she ran.
The person being supported also wore a hooded cloak pulled tightly over their head, but their small stature suggested they were also a woman.
The woman screamed again.
“The demon is targeting us! Please!”
Behind them, a figure cloaked in black and wearing a mask, whose identity was unknown, hesitated upon seeing the gate guards before darting back into the darkness. This was noticed by the guards.
The leader of the gate guards stepped forward, keeping watch in the direction the masked figure had fled, and addressed the women.
“It’s safe now, young lady. Since you’ve come through our checkpoint, we will protect you from this point forward.”
The woman then tearfully expressed her gratitude.
“Thank you. I was suddenly attacked, my friend was injured, and I feared I might be helplessly captured too. But the Gugeom Gate truly lives up to its reputation as a splendid place.”
The squad leader smiled meaningfully at her words and said to them.
“Why don’t you come inside and rest for a while? Your friend seems to need treatment too.”
