Chapter 21: Wind and Snow, Ruined Temple, Demon
Snow—heavy, goose-feather flakes—accompanied the howling cold wind.
On a snow-covered mountain path, a faint light flickered inside a dilapidated temple.
The cold wind seeped through the cracks in the door, whistling softly, while the windows rattled loudly, causing the fire inside to flicker violently.
Lu Jianjia tightened her fleece coat and extended her reddened, delicate hands toward the flames.
“Why did it suddenly get so cold? Thank goodness we found this ruined temple; otherwise, we might have frozen to death.”
As she spoke, her gaze passed over the fire to the young man not far away.
He was roasting a leg of venison while simmering bone broth.
Although he was wearing a sheepskin coat, half of his forearms and shins were exposed, making one feel chilled just looking at him.
Was he not cold at all?
“Here.”
Gu Shiyi handed a leg of venison to Lu Jianjia, then took the other leg and began gnawing on it.
Lu Jianjia took a bite; it tasted gamey, and without a bit of salt, it would have been utterly unpalatable.
Even so, she only ate a few bites, choosing instead to drink a few more gulps of the bone broth, finding the warm feeling extraordinarily comforting.
“Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh~”
The wind outside blew even harder, the sound whistling through the door cracks resembling the wailing of evil ghosts.
Lu Jianjia set down her bowl and chopsticks and glanced back; let alone the pitch-black exterior, even the dark corners inside the ruined temple seemed bottomless, making her shrink from looking too long.
